Abstract

Every asphalt pavement rehabilitation, apart from benefits in terms of safety, comfort and speed for users, also has its negative side, i.e., adverse effects on the environment. Some of these impacts, such as carbon dioxide equivalent emissions, cannot be limited to the immediate environment where the works are carried out, but are global. In order to limit the increase in the average temperature on Earth caused by increased CO2e emissions to below 2oC, and in accordance with Serbia's internationally accepted obligations, it is necessary that all industries, including construction, make their maximum contribution. When we talk about the rehabilitation of asphalt curtains, one of the possible ways to greatly reduce CO2e emissions is the application of thermostable geogrids for asphalt reinforcement. The main effect achieved by the application of geogrids for asphalt reinforcement is the extension of the durability of the new asphalt layer while reducing maintenance costs. According to the manufacturer of asphalt reinforcement nets and delaying the appearance of reflected cracks, the durability of the new asphalt layer increases 3-4 times. The paper provides a detailed analysis of the achieved carbon dioxide equivalent savings as well as the financial benefits of applying the HaTelit C 40/17 geogrid during the rehabilitation of the pavement on the project: Enhanced maintenance of state road IB no. 12, Žabalj-Zrenjanin.
